homosexual is the new terrorist

this is just sad, sick and overwhelming all at the same time.

Kern cites support from GOP

By MICK HINTON World Capitol Bureau
3/11/2008

Under fire for calling homosexuality a greater threat than terrorism, the lawmaker receives a standing ovation.

BACKLASH
Rep. Sally Kern: She’s received more than 5,000 e-mails, most of them critical.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A state lawmaker who declared that homosexuality is a greater threat to the United States than terrorism said Monday that she received a standing ovation from her fellow Republican legislators Monday.

Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City, said she has been barraged with more than 5,000 e-mails since she made national headlines over the weekend. Most of the communications were critical, and several contained language that Kern said she has never heard before.

The lawmaker related some of the e-mails to Republican caucus members in a closed meeting Monday. She later said the group gave her a standing ovation.

Rep. Al McAffrey, the only openly gay member of the state Legisla ture, said he resents Kern's assertion that homosexuality is worse than terrorism.

"Gays are law-abiding; they pay taxes. Some have children," he said, noting that he is a father and grandfather.

Kern said she has made these comments about four times to various Republican groups and that apparently someone secretly recorded her comments at a meeting in January.

An audio presentation of her comments first appeared on a Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund Web site; then on YouTube. The YouTube file had received nearly 400,000 hits by Monday evening.

Kern said many of those who sent her electronic messages would deny her right to free speech.

"To put this simply: As a Christian I believe homosexuality is not moral," she said. "Obviously, you have the right as an American to choose that lifestyle, but I also have the right to express my views, and my fellow Oklahomans have the right to debate these issues."

A former teacher, Kern asserted that the government wants to get young children into school at a very early age so it can indoctrinate them.

Kern said that at age 2, 3, 4 or 5, "little girls want to play with little girls, little boys with boys, because their hormones haven't kicked in just yet."

But Kern said teaching about homosexuality at this stage "is a very deceptive and deceitful way to influence children" that homosexuality is acceptable behavior.

Laura Belmonte, president of the Tulsa group Oklahomans for Equality, said Kern "is not saying anything markedly different than she has over the last several years. The only difference is that she is getting national exposure."

"I find it particularly interesting that she (Kern) is invoking freedom of speech for these remarks," Belmonte said, noting that Kern sponsored a bill a few years ago to restrict access to library books that might contain gay or lesbian themes or information.

Justice Waidner, executive director of Oklahomans for Equality, said in a press release that "OkEq firmly supports Rep. Kern's constitutional right to express her views, but vociferously objects to the actions she takes to prevent LGBT Oklahomans from attaining justice and equality."

"When elected officials use their power to defame entire categories of people, they abuse the freedom of speech embedded in the First Amendment and violate their responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of their constituents," she said.

The group called upon the rest of the Legislature to condemn Kern's comments and to pass a state hate crimes law that includes sexual orientation and gender identity.

a pregnant 'man'?

this story is fascinating and amazing! i'm so happy this is getting media attention!

'Pregnant' man stuns medical profession

By Catherine Elsworth in Los Angeles
Last Updated: 6:29pm GMT 26/03/2008

A man who used to be a woman is five months pregnant, according to an article he has written for an American magazine that features a picture of him at 22 weeks, with facial hair and a man's flat chest above his swollen stomach.

Thomas Beatie, who was born a woman, describes himself as a "transgender male" in the piece which says his decision to have a child "has been met with discrimination and outright derision by health care professionals".

Thomas Beatie article from The Advocate
Thomas Beatie's article as it appeared in The Advocate

The article, entitled Labour of Love, appears in the most recent issue of The Advocate, a Los Angeles-based magazine with a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender readership.

According to the piece, Mr Beatie went through a sex change but decided to have only chest reconstruction and testosterone therapy, stopping short of making any changes to the reproductive organs he was born with.

Mr Beatie is legally male and lives with his wife, Nancy, in Bend, Oregon. The couple, who have been together 10 years, wanted to have children.

Mrs Beatie, however, was unable to conceive, having suffered severe endometriosis and undergone a hysterectomy, her husband writes.

So the couple decided Mr Beatie should try to carry a baby. He stopped the hormone injections and his periods returned, he writes.

After a year - and nine doctors - he was able to get pregnant using frozen donor sperm but the pregnancy was eptopic and required surgery.

But a second pregnancy was a success and the couple's daughter is due on July 3, the article states.

Mr Beatie describes the process as a challenge, listing the difficulties they encountered en route, including hostility from doctors to a situation that "sparks legal, political and social unknowns".

The first doctor they approached "told me to shave my facial hair", Mr Beatie writes. Others turned them away.

"Receptionists have laughed at us. Friends and family have been unsupportive; most of Nancy's family doesn't even know I'm transgender".

"How does it feel to be a pregnant man?" he writes in the article.

"Incredible. Despite the fact that my belly is growing with a new life inside me, I am stable and confident being the man that I am. In a technical sense I see myself as my own surrogate, though my gender identity as male is constant. To Nancy, I am her husband carrying our child. "I will be my daughter's father, and Nancy will be her mother. We will be a family."

In the article, Mr Beatie says that to neighbours in "our quiet Oregon community", he and his wife "are viewed just as we are - a happy couple deeply in love."

Canada's National Post said an editorial assistant with The Advocate confirmed it had verified the pregnancy with Mr Beatie's gynaecologist. She added that the photograph of the pregnant man was Mr Beatie.

The couple, however, refused to give the Post further details, citing deals with American media outlets. "It's a big deal and we want to be able to tell our story," the Post reported Mrs Beatie as saying.

"We'd love everybody on board as long as they're understanding and are going to tell our story and not their own."

Neal Broverman, associate editor of The Advocate, confirmed to The Daily Telegraph that in addition to talking to Mr Beatie and seeing the picture of him pregnant, the magazine had spoken to his doctor to confirm he was indeed expecting.

chauncey dirty treat

the new junkie xl album is sick! the beats alone are lovely and disgusting and there's a pretty decent cover of siouxsie and the banshee's 'cities in dust' giving it the updated grimey sound it deserves. the only thing that misses about it for me is the fact that the female vocalist tries to impersonate siouxsie...which is a criminal offense unless you're the girl from the yeah yeah yeahs, karen o. junkie xl is also one of the remixers of the new madonna single, 'four minute' (of course it had to come back to madge right?). i've always loves his work like his remixes for coldplay, sarah mclachlan, bt and the scissor sisters amongst others. he takes songs to a completely new level and height...the way it should be.
here's one of the songs from the album called 'you make me feel so good' sampling a sample from the 90's that i can't remember exactly. there are too many songs i wanted to share but this one will give you a good idea of what to expect on the album. enjoy!

miles away

i know it seems like this is turning into a madonna blog but on the eve of such a risky album and being an insanely obsessed fan...what would you expect? it'll calm down soon and i'll get back to sharing songs and my opinions on other things that exist in the world but here's a little clip of her talking about her trip to japan a couple years ago and explaining that one of the new tracks on her album called 'miles away' will be used for the opening intro to a new tv show in japan. you can hear the song in the background throughout the little clip. it sounds gorgeous and very classic madonna...with a melody and delivery that madonna hasn't attempted in quite a while. check it out!

ellen loves the new madonna song

god she is so damn cute....and it's also kinda cool to see all the people in the audience dancing to it too. the dj is definitely a cute fag and a fan too...check it out

four minutes of bliss

wow! it's finally leaked! the new madonna song featuring justin and timbaland. i must say i'm pleasantly surprised. i had big ole fears that this direction (along with tons of the madonna fan community) was a mistake. she slips right into this character and style with ease like only madonna can posess. it's a hot song...with a killer beat...it's about something bigger than all of us and it's got that 'now' sound but it's got a retro vibe to it at the same time. and the breakdown is just sick...check it out!

madonna - four minutes

special thanks to my dear pal guyruben for super quickly sending me the file!

you think you're punk?

(i kinda was the one on the left way way way back in 96...he is gorgeous!)
so basically....i knew when i moved to williamsburg in february...i would be dealing with and placed in contact with a lot of posers and wannabes and really young 'artists' who think that they are so fucking cool. i couldn't have been righter!

tonight on the slow and miserable train ride home...(it didn't help that i drank way past my quota for the night), i was mesmerized by the cutest little red headed boy standing directly across from me. i make it a point to focus on at least one or two unusually sexy guys when i'm on the train in order to make my painful trip more exciting.

basically i was all about him...he was interestingly dressed...a skull and cross bones impregnated jumper (yes i said jumper shannon!)...a quiet but loud to those "in the know" smirk on his face...he seemed cautious yet defiant....two mismatched qualities i devilishly love in an awkward man...

i was sadomasichistically transfixed upon the unsexy redheaded boy standing directly in front of me....painfully awaiting his stop as i was...he even had the strangest piercing i've ever seen in my piercing fascinated life....it was a tiny stud....high upon his upper cheek bone...the kind of piercing that you want to ask about even though you know it would be totally annoying for the person pierced to even consider responding to your questions of why and your questions of pain and importance...

oh god...i'm babbling again...but in that good way again...probably because yet again i am intoxicated again! (so unusual hehe).

he was hot....he was different...he was interesting...but then...the armagghedon struck...he pulled out his off white ipod and began spinning the wheel of audio....

i thought to myself...and i'm sure my chagrin spoke volumes...what a fucking douchebag...

he thinks on a constant rhythm that he is so ubercool yet he has bought completely into the system of i want i want i want that he actually has to spin his uncalloused thumb around and around to find the song he wishes to hear. he is the divine interpretation of the 'hipster' and he completely lost all of his sexy points...

oh well...another fantasy torn from my adolescent libido....i can deal...i can handle it...

i love when i babble and i love when i'm typing at the same time...

que sera sera...blah blah blah....blah blah...blah blah....

i think i like living in williamsburg....but i honestly feel like i'm either too old or i don't really fit in...or both...but then again...when have i ever fit in? that's always been my selling point...not fitting in...

ahhhhh cha cha cha chaaaa!

enough about madonna...how about spitzer?

NY gov apologizes, but quiet on scandal
By AMY WESTFELDT, Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK - Gov. Eliot Spitzer apologized to his family and the public on Monday, but did not not elaborate on a bombshell report that he has been involved in a prostitution ring.

"I have acted in a way that violates my obligations to my family ... my sense of right and wrong," he said at a news conference at his Manhattan office. "I must now dedicate some time to rededicate my trust to my family."

Spitzer's wife stood at his side, her hands behind her back and her eyes cast downward, as he made the statement.

The New York Times reported that a person with knowledge of the governor's role believes the governor is identified as a client in court papers. Four people allegedly connected to a high-end prostitution ring called Emperors Club VIP were arrested last week.

The Web site of the Emperors Club VIP displays photographs of scantily clad women with their faces hidden. It also shows hourly rates depending on whether the prostitutes were rated with one diamond, the lowest ranking, or seven diamonds, the highest. The most highly ranked prostitutes cost $5,500 an hour, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said the defendants arranged connections between wealthy men and more than 50 prostitutes in New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Miami, London and Paris.

The Times reported that the governor's travel records show he was in Washington in mid-February, and that one of the clients arranged to meet with a prostitute on the night of Feb. 13.

The case is being handled by prosecutors in the Public Corruption unit of U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia's office. Garcia spokeswoman Yusill Scribner said the office had no comment.

Spitzer, 48, built his political legacy on rooting out corruption, including several headline-making battles with Wall Street while serving as attorney general. He stormed into the governor's office in 2006 with a historic share of the vote, vowing to continue his no-nonsense approach to fixing one of the nation's worst governments.

Time magazine had named him "Crusader of the Year" when he was attorney general and the tabloids proclaimed him "Eliot Ness."

But his stint as governor has been marred by several problems, including an unpopular plan to grant driver's licenses to illegal immigrants and a plot by his aides to smear Spitzer's main Republican nemesis.

Spitzer had been expected to testify to the state Public Integrity Commission he had created to answer for his role in the scandal, in which his aides were accused of misusing state police to compile travel records to embarrass Senate Republican leader Joseph Bruno.

Spitzer had served two terms as attorney general where he pursued criminal and civil cases and cracked down on misconduct and conflicts of interests on Wall Street and in corporate America. He had previously been a prosecutor in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, handling organized crime and white-collar crime cases.

His cases as state attorney general included a few criminal prosecutions of prostitution rings and into tourism involving prostitutes.

In 2004, he was part of an investigation of an escort service in New York City that resulted in the arrest of 18 people on charges of promoting prostitution and related charges.

Associated Press Writer Mike Gormley contributed to this report from Albany, N.Y.

she looks insane!

but that's why i love her!
tonight has been a special night. the one and only madonna was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame? that's crazy! it's just not right!
basically it means that i have had the pleasure of being a fan of someone for approximately 25 years! i might have been only 7 years old but i was old enough to witness the beginning of madonna's career! i'm definitely a child of the mtv generation. i was born in 1976...i had older brothers...older brothers with gigantic personalities...waiting for their youngest brother to develop his own. i'm pretty sure they got their wish...hehe...
so anyway...mtv came out in what? the early 80's? adam curry...martha what's her name? nina blackwood? that black guy with the gerry curls? the buggles...van halen...or better yet...david lee roth...tom petty telling us to not come around here no more!....boy george confusing us again....duran duran taking us on a boat ride through brazil....corey hart determined to keep his sunglasses on....poltergeist...hbo...that theme song...hating myself for falling in love with judd nelson in the breakfast club but feeling so naughty at the same time....wanting emilio estevez to get the shit kicked out of him...wanting to be ally sheedy's friend...ignoring molly ringwald but realizing that a few of your friends in school were a little too much like 'claire'...a fat girls name...

i remember madonna accidentally spraying paint on her really rich photographer's expensive car....i remember those neon green pumps with the orange socks...or was it the other way around...or were they yellow even?..... kicking the telephone pole because obviously some superhot object of her affection is not giving her the time of day and she's really pissed off but doesn't want to let anyone else that is watching know....something we've all experienced a thousand times or maybe a few times....but we can't possibly imagine someone of madonna's stature to have to remotely entertain the thought that they might face the dilemma of someone not wanting to spend time with them...or not wanting to have sex with them...or would not want to even meet them....you would think there isn't a person in the world that would not want to have the priviledge of meeting the one and only madonna louise veronica ciccone.

but anyway....that rambling of mine just now might go down in history as the craziest thing i've ever written and allowed to be posted onto the internet. i guess i'm pissed off at myself that i've been recently procrastinating with my blog...and i figure the way to apologize to all of you 20 loyal readers is by just running my thoughts off on you at 2 o'clock in the morning after a few too many stellas and a few too many jacks....

but all things aside....madonna got inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame tonight!

wow!

that was my excuse to celebrate....as if i needed one! ha!

here's some of the reports! she looked fucking awesome!

Madonna says thanks but won't sing, John Mellencamp rocks the house with medley of hits: 2008 Rock Hall inductions

by John Soeder/Plain Dealer Pop Music Critic
Monday March 10, 2008, 10:50 PM

Madonna accepts her award after being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in New York.

New York -- Madonna and Leonard Cohen were ushered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during a black-tie dinner Monday night, but they didn't sing for their supper. Among the other performers enshrined were the Dave Clark Five, John Mellencamp and the Ventures.

But the only freshly minted Hall of Famers who actually performed during the 23rd annual induction ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel were Mellencamp and the Ventures. Did Black Sabbath start an unfortunate trend when the band declined to play two years ago, leaving Metallica to bash out "Iron Man" instead? Maybe, judging from the surrogate entertainment at this year's gala.

Madonna and Cohen made acceptance speeches, although it fell to stand-ins to regale us with a few songs on behalf of the reluctant pop superstar and the moody singer-songwriter.

The Material Girl was inducted by Justin Timberlake. "With all due respect to the city of Cleveland, even that place sounds slightly erotic knowing Madonna is going to be entering the hall," Timberlake said. "For longer than I can remember ... Madonna has been causing a stir, usually well-timed for the release of her latest album."

At the podium, Madonna was by turns humble, philosophical and self-deprecating. "I've always been fortunate to have people around me who believed in me," she said. "Life, like art, is a collaboration. I did not get here on my own. And why would I want to?"

She fondly recalled everyone from her former ballet teacher to ex-bandmates. She even thanked her critics. "They pushed me to be better," Madonna said.

Six-time Rock Hall nominees Iggy Pop & the Stooges were recruited to do a couple of Madonna tunes because . . . um . . . well, they're originally from Michigan, just like Madonna, OK? A shirtless Pop & Co. tore through "Burning Up" from Madonna's self-titled 1983 debut and "Ray of Light," the title track of her 1998 album.

"Between recording commitments, pre-promotion for her upcoming album and family commitments, there wasn't enough time for her to prepare a proper performance," Madonna's longtime publicist, Liz Rosenberg, informed The Plain Dealer via e-mail.

Madonna "does not, as we know, do things halfway," Rosenberg wrote. "I'd love for her to grab her guitar and just rock out, but that's not our girl."

Madonna, Mellencamp head to rock hall

NEW YORK

Madonna, pop music's quick-change artist, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Monday and paid tribute to people who encouraged her and even critics who panned her for helping drive her career.

Heartland hitmaker John Mellencamp, Philly soul producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, literate songwriter Leonard Cohen, British rockers the Dave Clark Five and surf instrumentalists the Ventures were among the other inductees.

Madonna recalled a teacher who encouraged her to follow her dreams when she was only 14.

"Thirty-five years later, people are still encouraging me to believe in my dreams," she said at the Waldorf Astoria induction ceremony. "What more could I ask for?"

Even the people who "said I was talentless, that I was chubby, that I couldn't sing, that I was a one-hit wonder, they helped me, too," she said. "They inspired me because they made me question myself repeatedly and pushed me to be better."

Singer Justin Timberlake, who helped produce Madonna's upcoming album, inducted her with an innuendo-laden speech.

"The world is full of Madonna wanna-bes. I might have even dated a couple," said Britney Spears' ex. "But there is truly only one Madonna."

Timberlake told of how he felt ill one day while working on Madonna's new album and she asked whether he wanted a B-12 shot. He said sure, expecting a doctor, to show up, but Madonna pulled out a syringe and said, "drop 'em."

After he pulled his pants back up, "she looked at me and said, 'that's top shelf," and that was one of the greatest days of my life," he said.

"Everything he said is basically true," Madonna confirmed, "but I didn't say 'drop 'em,' I said, 'pull your pants down."

Madonna didn't perform, but asked punk rockers Iggy Pop and the Stooges to sing "Burning Up" and "Ray of Light."

At the end, a shirtless Pop said, "you make me feel shiny and new, like a virgin touched for the very first time," and tossed his microphone of the floor.

it's coming....

no it's not the new cover for the new madonna album but my god i wish it was! steven klein is a genius and i'm so glad that she continues to work with him. his photography is fantastic and really captures her in the most perfect way. she's always worked with the right photographers all throughout her career and they all served their purpose. she's also reunited with steven meisel, of sex book fame, for a supposedly really steamy lingerie clad magazine spread soon to hit the stands. a forty nine year old woman posing in lingerie...who else but madonna?

as for the new album, reviews have been coming in from left and right and they are all obviously biased whether they're from bitchy queens who want to see her fail or rabid fans who in their eyes can do no wrong. i'm waiting to get my own impression as the leaks come in. there are some low quality snippets of the lead single 'four minutes' but it's hard to hear the vocals on it and i definitely want to hear it in full quality. strangely enough, two of the songs that leaked last year, candy store and the beat goes on are both still making their way onto the album despite how long ago they leaked. candy store is mediocre and is unfortunately the album opener. the 'sticky and sweet' party is it's saving grace though...you'll agree i'm sure. 'the beat goes on' has become 'beat goes on' and features a rap by crybaby kanye west. it just seems like bedtime stories all over again without the bjork song of course. there is a song on the album called 'incredible' that i'm interested in hearing along with 'voices' and the supposed pop perfection of a song called 'give it 2 me'. the single hits radio soon and the album comes out on april 28th. i'm sure we'll have the whole album leaked somewhere around mid april. i'll be sure to let you know where to find it. here's another steven klein shot that is sexy and cool with a bitchy rugged undertone...very klein...very madonna...

madonna feat. timbaland and timberlake - four minutes (radio rip)

sorry i've been busy

i've really been trying my best to get back to regular blogging but working hard and playing hard has distracted me. i think since the superbowl including my very first superbowl party, after party and hangover the following morning, i've been on somewhat of a self destructive rampage. i've been working really hard so i guess i've counteracted that with having too much fun after work and also djing quite a bit somewhere in there. february had five fridays so the first and fifth we had our monthly gruff party at the eagle, along with two stints at my alternating tuesday stint at nowhere bar.
this month brought on my dj debut at the gay, lesbian, bisexual & transgender (glbt) community center! it was such an honour to play music in the hallowed halls that i once felt kind of awkward visiting way back when as any young awkward gay male would feel. it happened to be a sober dance (still confused along with a bunch of other people why i get hired for these things hehe), the first of its kind at the center for people who are either former drug addicts and alcoholics or people who just like to dance and don't necessarily need to get bombed to do so. (see flyer below)

working at housing works has certainly doubled or tripled in the challenge factor, but i definitely don't enjoy working there because it's an easy job. i spend my days there balancing personalities along with balancing sales goals and a constant stock of furniture and housewares and clothing that are always unexpected. everything that we sell is donated so everything has a little story behind it and will eventually continue on in another person's life.
i recently had a meeting with two of my higher ups and one of the main concerns was that i am definitely too nice to my employees and need to be more of a disciplinarian, making them aware of positive and negative consequences to their actions. i took it to heart and have been trying my best to be a better leader. coming in to work hungover and my eyes bloodshot probably isn't the best example to set hehe. one of the oldest volunteers that works there named george called me "irreverent" and after finally figuring out exactly what it means, i found out that i was beat down and put on a pedestal all in the same week.

this coming thursday at the store is our annual spring preview event. we also do one in the fall in september. it's basically our chance to completely vacate the store of all merchandise with major markdowns and sales and replenish it with antiques, furniture, housewares and clothing we've been saving all winter. and it isn't just run of the mill items, we save the cream of the crop from the donations we recieve and transform the store into a cutting edge boutique filled with expensive items from designer clothing to custom made sofas and so much more! i'll be working a tremendous amount of hours this week, but it will all be worth it. in that same meeting with my higher ups i was also reminded about how the sky is the limit and being manager of the chelsea location, our flagship store, i can do anything i want...creatively that is. and boy, did that spark something in me that i knew was there but just couldn't find the outlet. i plan on turning that store into a gorgeous mindfuck of a thrift store, it's going to be amazing. i will definitely take pictures and post them here. in the meantime go to www.housingworksauctions.com for all the scoop. i promise i'll be back in full force very soon.

love beams,
