blast at boysroom last night!
so after a couple of weeks of promoting my fingers off and hoping that my new gig at the boysroom would become successful...especially after the let go from the 'other' place...finally a really busy night filled with boys boogeying, faggots prancing (and i use that word lovingly of course) and the bartender all smiles. the night looked promising because my friend bret was inviting a bunch of friends to celebrate his birthday...but then at a certain point i looked up and a whole slew of people started walking in and immediately went towards the back to join in the dance party. my friend kenny got onto the little stage across from the dj booth and did his trademark dancing while my sister mel (aka velocity dandridge) popped by and tore up the floor gyrating and doing runway for all to gawk at. also, the kiki twins consisting of ashlee and elle t showed up (nyc new celebrities so to speak www.myspace.com/thekikitwins) and that made me happy especially because they were riling up the crowd and approved of my sounds. also...i guess i was on a high last night because i got a phone call from housing works about a job i applied for. i worked for them almost ten years ago and would kill to get a chance to work for them again. there is a position for assistant manager in the chelsea location and the new brooklyn location and i just called and had a great talk with the regional manager resulting in an interview set up for friday evening! i am so excited.
also what i learned last night finally is that i can give in to the hip hop genre that everyone annoyingly requests (especially little young bastards or their underage fag hags) from time to time but splice into it my trademark electro and nasty beats. honestly i do like some hip hop or hip pop as it should be called but i hate it when all people want to hear is what they hear everywhere else and on the radio. djs used to be teachers or prophets but in the day and age of ipods and downloading...everyone wants to hear what they feel like hearing and don't care about all the work i or others like me put into discovering new shit and offering it to them. i know the dj usually has an ego and i'm no different but i'm getting paid to be a dj not a jukebox. last night i realized that i can lure people in with what they know and them slam them with something hot and fresh that they never heard before but keeps them up and moving. it took me how long to figure this out? hehehe
hopefully word gets out and next week will be busy as well..and i will actually have a really fun, successful and interesting tuesday night party going on...woo hoo
good music still thrives
nelly furtado's recent single 'say it right' is actually doing well in the us...it's a little hope that the sad scenario of hip hop dominating with producer of the moment beats and rehashed lyrics and samples might be eventually coming to a close. of course she did enlist timbaland to produce the album but he created a lush soundscape for this song. because of her singing style i didn't really know what the song was about but i knew from the melody and the arrangement that it was poignant and i liked it. here's the lyrics which are astonishingly gorgeous along with a dirty sexy remix of the song by the dummies...enjoy "
"Say It Right"
In the day
In the night
Say it right
Say it all
You either got it
Or you don't
You either stand or you fall
When your will is broken
When it slips from your hand
When there's no time for joking
There's a hole in the plan
Oh you don't mean nothing at all to me
No you don't mean nothing at all to me
But you got what it takes to set me free
Oh you could mean everything to me
I can't say that
I'm not lost and at fault
I can't say that
I don't love the light and the dark
I can't say that I don't know that I am alive
And all of what I feel
I could show
You tonight you tonight
Oh you don't mean nothing at all to me
No you don't mean nothing at all to me
But you got what it takes to set me free
Oh you could mean everything to me
From my hands
I could give you
Something that I made
From my mouth
I could sing you another brick that I laid
From my body
I could show you a place God knows
You should know the space is holy
Do you really want to go?

Pope Fires New Broadside At Gay Families
by The Associated Press
Posted: January 27, 2007 - 4:00 pm ET
(Vatican City) Pope Benedict on Saturday reiterated his defense of the traditional family, saying real marriage can only be between a man and a woman.
Benedict's remarks to a Vatican tribunal were the latest by the pontiff on the issue as the Pope keeps up a campaign against unmarried couples and same-sex unions.
The Pope warned against what he said was a "cultural context marked by relativism" and against any views of marriage as merely a legal union "that human will could manipulate as it pleases, even depriving it of its heterosexual nature."
"Each marriage is certainly the fruit of free consent between man and woman," the Pope said in an audience at the Vatican marking the beginning of the judiciary year.
"The union occurs because of the design by God, who has created them male and female and gives them the power to unite those natural and complementary dimensions forever," he said.
The Pope went on to say the bond is indissoluble because "it is so in the design of creation."
The Vatican opposes divorce and other challenges to church doctrine that have become increasingly common in Europe and elsewhere.
It does allow annulment, a process by which the Church effectively declares that a marriage never took place, leaving faithful free to remarry and receive Communion.
In his remarks Saturday, the Pope appealed to the Roman Rota - the annulment-deciding tribunal - not to grant annulments too easily.
Circumstances for granting annulments include refusal by a husband or a wife to have children or the psychological incapability of one of the spouses to contract a valid marriage.
Benedict has condemned same-sex unions as anarchic "pseudo-matrimony," and has launched a campaign for the protection of families based on marriage between a man and a woman. The Vatican also has consistently criticized movements in Italy and other countries that call for granting legal rights to unmarried couples.
Last year, the Pontifical Council for the Family issued a document in which it said that the traditional family has never been so threatened as in today's world.
On Thursday, the Pope called for unity among Christian denominations to fight same-sex marriage. (story)

Clinton Stumps In Iowa
by The Associated Press
Posted: January 28, 2007 - 11:00 am ET
(Des Moines, Iowa) New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton blamed President Bush on Saturday for misusing authority given him by Congress to act in Iraq, but conceded "I take responsibility" for her role in allowing that to happen.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Clinton also said she would not cede black votes to Barack Obama and that she had proven as a U.S. senator that gender is irrelevant.
Of her husband, the former president, she said he would have a role in the campaign but "I'm the one running for president."
Clinton was making her first campaign swing through this early nominating state, which twice voted for Bill Clinton for president.
She met with key activists and held a raucous town hall meeting with 1,500 cheering backers and hundreds of journalists.
"I have said clearly and consistently for quite some time that I regret the way the president misused the authority," said Clinton. "He misled Congress and the country on what he was seeking and what he intended to do."
The responsibility Clinton said she accepts was helping clear the way for Bush's path in Iraq.
"I take responsibility for having voted to give him that authority," she said. "My focus is on what we do now. That is the proper debate."
Clinton said she expected to attract black votes even though Obama, the freshman Illinois senator, has caught fire. "I'm going to be asking for the votes of all Americans," she said.
Her husband will play a key role in her campaign, though she'll make it clear she's the candidate.

Election staff convicted in recount rig
By M.R. KROPKO Associated Press Writer
© 2007 The Associated Press
CLEVELAND — Two election workers were convicted Wednesday of rigging a recount of the 2004 presidential election to avoid a more thorough review in Ohio's most populous county.
Jacqueline Maiden, elections coordinator of the Cuyahoga County Elections Board, and ballot manager Kathleen Dreamer each were convicted of a felony count of negligent misconduct of an elections employee. They also were convicted of one misdemeanor count each of failure of elections employees to perform their duty.
Prosecutors accused Maiden and Dreamer of secretly reviewing preselected ballots before a public recount on Dec. 16, 2004. They worked behind closed doors for three days to pick ballots they knew would not cause discrepancies when checked by hand, prosecutors said.
Defense attorney Roger Synenberg has said the workers were following procedures as they understood them.
Ohio gave President Bush the electoral votes he needed to defeat Democratic Sen. John Kerry in the close election and hold on to the White House in 2004.
Special prosecutor Kevin Baxter did not claim the workers' actions affected the outcome of the election — Kerry gained 17 votes and Bush lost six in the county's recount.
Maiden and Dreamer, who still work for the elections board, face a possible sentence of six to 18 months for the felony conviction. Sentencing is on Feb. 26.
A message left for Elections Board Director Michael Vu was not immediately returned Wednesday. The board released a statement that said its goal is to restore confidence in the county's election progress and pursue reforms in addition to those made since 2004.

current crush - steve bacic
steve bacic
The name?
It's pronounced like the word basic - as easy as that.
i've become more than somewhat of a sci-fi channel geek as of late and just this morning i caught the first of a flurry of episodes of 'andromeda' and absolutely fell in love with telemachus rhade played by the hunky, beastly, heart palpitation inducing actor steve bacic. the show ain't bad either and even after finding out that he was voted 'most attractive actor in sci-fi' by fans i still cemented my crush on him. not since the cast of 'heroes' were unleashed on me recently have i anticipated each frame of a show a character was in. with heroes there are too many interestingly attractive and non conventional hotties...sometimes i even crush on the girls in that show ehhe. by the way...last nights episode was brilliant! an excellent way to start the new chapters...can't wait to see what hiro's sword will do!
steve bacic is not the typical tank top (in space?) wearing roughneck...he's got wit, manly handsomeness, burly brawn and a lovely mop of dark dark hair that i would love to grab while i go in for a nice, deep, long kiss...yikes lemme stop now ehhe

original poetry
silhouette
i just stayed put right where i was
flat on my back in the center of your bed
my arms folded behind my head
while you ran away to wash away
any evidence of what we just did
while i remained sweaty and sticky
marinating in the memory
then you came back
the outline of your silhouette
flickering in and out of the television candlelight
the doorway framing your body
perfectly...so perfectly
until you took your mask
and put it back on
and laid down on the other side of the bed
on the other side of the world
and i sat up and climbed up
out of the temporary paradise
picked up my things and moved
into the awful white light and
onto the cold blue tiles
hoping one day you'd ask me to stay
the whole night
we love you already jake!
jake in jarhead...muy delicioso...
so upset i missed this on snl....jake is fucking brilliant! watch his opening monologue when he hosted saturday night live last week...boy can sang! and those arm muscles...yum yum yum! there's a lot of speculation that he's gay...but i don't think so...although he'd probably make the perfect boyfriend....he's just an awesome guy and funny as hell (keeping him straight keeps the fantasy meter up eheh) check it out

Statement of Senator Clinton on Today's Reintroduction of Net Neutrality Legislation
Washington, DC - Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton issued the following statement on the reintroduction today of the Internet Freedom Preservation Act. Senator Clinton is an original cosponsor of the legislation.
"No other communications medium in recent history has had such a profound impact on the expression of speech, education, the dissemination of information, the proliferation of commerce and the exchange of political ideas as the Internet. However, it was under the basic principles of neutrality and non discrimination from its inception that the Internet was able to flourish. Indeed, under these conditions a small business has been able to market to the same customers as the biggest corporation. The average citizen has been able to voice their grievances in the same forum as the editors of the largest newspaper. And students, entrepreneurs and consumers have been empowered by the wealth of information and opportunities afforded by an open Internet.
It is clear that we must continue to build on the innovations brought forth by the Internet. This means ensuring more affordable broadband access and ensuring that there continues to be open, unimpaired and unencumbered Internet access for both its users and content providers. As evidenced by the diverse coalition of the consumer, business and citizen groups that span the political and ideological spectrum, and who all strongly support the concept of network neutrality, it is critical that Congress take steps to preserve the principles enshrined therein. We need to ensure that the Internet of the 21st century opens the same doors, creates the same opportunities and fosters the same innovation that has been created by its predecessor. It is for these reasons that I am an original cosponsor of the Internet Freedom Preservation Act to guarantee that the open and nondiscriminatory architecture of the Internet remains in tact. As the 110th Congress begins, I join my colleagues in reintroducing this important legislation and look forward to an open and substantive debate on this issue."

34,452 Iraq Civilians Said Killed in '06
By STEVEN R. HURST
Associated Press Writer
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- Twin car bombs tore through a leading Baghdad university as students left classes Tuesday in the deadliest attack in Iraq in nearly two months, and the United Nations reported 34,452 civilians were slain last year, nearly three times more than the government reported.
A total of 142 Iraqis were killed or found dead Tuesday, in what appeared to be a renewed campaign of Sunni insurgent violence against Shiite targets. The sharp uptick in deadly attacks coincided with the release of U.N. figures that showed an average of 94 civilians died each day in sectarian bloodshed in 2006.
The blasts wrecked two small buses as students at Al-Mustansiriya University were lining up for the ride home at about 3:45 p.m., according to Taqi al-Moussawi, a university dean. At least 65 students died.
The attackers stationed a man wearing a suicide belt in the expected path of fleeing students to take even more lives, but he was spotted and shot by security men before he could blow himself up, the dean said.
"The only guilt of our martyred students is that they pursued education. They belong to all religions, sects and ethnic groups," said an angry al-Moussawi, himself a Shiite. "The terrorists want to stop education. ...Those students had nothing to do with politics."
After the explosions, a rescue worker and three men in civilian clothes scrambled through the debris to carry a charred victim away in a sheet. Firefighters in yellow helmets examined the charred wreckage of an bashed-in, overturned minivan.
The university's well-shaded campus occupies several square blocks in north central Baghdad, a mostly Shiite area. The school ranks second among institutions of higher education in Iraq. Founded in 1963, it was named after one of the oldest Islamic schools, established in the 13th century during the Abbasid dynasty that ruled the Muslim world. Thousands attend the university, known especially for its colleges of science, literature and education.
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki blamed the attack on "terrorists and Saddamists" seeking revenge for Monday's hanging of two of Saddam Hussein's top aides, convicted with him for the slaying of 148 Shiite men and boys after a 1982 assassination attempt in the northern town of Dujail.
The violence Tuesday against Shiites may signal a campaign by Sunni insurgents to shed as much blood as possible before the deployment of 21,500 more American troops. Most of the additional U.S. troops will be used to back up the Iraqi army in a security sweep to rid the capital of Sunni and Shiite gunmen.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, in Kuwait for a meeting with eight Arab nations to discuss ways to keep Iraq from sliding into civil war, sought to lower any expectations that the troop buildup would quickly pacify the country.
"Violent people will always be able to kill innocent people," she said. "So even with the new security plan, with the will and capability of the Iraqi government and with American forces to help reinforce Iraqi forces, there is still going to be violence."
She said the U.N. civilian death figures differ from others. "But whatever the number of civilians who have died in Iraq - and there obviously are competing numbers - but whatever the number is, it's too many," she said.
Tuesday's death toll at the al-Mustansiriya bombings made it the single most deadly attack against civilians in Iraq since Nov. 23, when a series of car bombs and mortar attacks by suspected al-Qaida in Iraq fighters in Baghdad's Sadr City Shiite slum killed at least 215 people.
Nov. 23 remains Iraq's deadliest day since the Associated Press began tracking civilian deaths in April 2005. The second deadliest day came on Sept. 14, 2005, with 178 deaths. The report Tuesday of 142 Iraqis killed makes it among the deadliest days, but not all those deaths were confirmed to have occurred on Tuesday.
The U.N. civilian casualty count for last year was announced in Baghdad by Gianni Magazzeni, the chief of the U.N. Assistance Mission for Iraq in Baghdad. He said 34,452 civilians died - an average of 94 a day - and 36,685 were wounded.
But Dr. Hakem al-Zamili, Iraq's deputy health minister, told The Associated Press the United Nations may be using unreliable sources for its casualty count. "They might be taking the figures from people who are opposed to the government or to the Americans," he said. "They are not accurate." He said he would provide Iraqi government figures later this week.
In early January, a compilation of Iraqi government figures put last year's civilian deaths at just 12,357. The numbers are gathered monthly by the AP from reports by three Iraqi agencies.
When asked about the difference, Magazzeni said the U.N. figures were compiled from information obtained through the Iraqi Health Ministry, hospitals across the country and the Medico-Legal Institute in Baghdad.
He criticized the government for allowing much of the violence to go unpunished, saying urgent action was needed to re-establish law and order in the country to prevent its slide into all-out civil war.
"Without significant progress in the rule of law, sectarian violence will continue indefinitely and eventually spiral out of control," he warned.
The U.N. report also said that 30,842 people were detained in the country as of Dec. 31, including 14,534 held in U.S. military-run prisons.
At least 470,094 people throughout Iraq have been forced to leave their homes since the bombing of an important Shiite shrine, the Golden Dome mosque in Samarra, in February, the U.N. accounting said.
The report said the violence has disrupted education by forcing schools and universities to close, as well as sending professionals fleeing from the country.
In a summary of the report posted on its Web site Tuesday, UNAMI said Iraq's women were particularly vulnerable, citing cases where young women were abducted by armed militia and late discovered sexually assaulted, tortured or murdered. In many cases, the agency said, families refuse to retrieve the bodies out of shame.
As bombs detonated at Al-Mustansiriya University on Tuesday, there were a series of other attacks on Shiite neighborhoods in central Baghdad.
A bomb planted on a motorcycle exploded in a used auto and motorcycle parts market in a Shiite neighborhood. As people rushed to aide the victims of the first blast, a suicide car bomber drove his car into the crowd. Fifteen people died.
Raid Abbas, a 26-year-old who received shrapnel wounds in the attack said he went to the market because the city had been quieter over the past two weeks.
"Shortly after midday, I heard an explosion. Motorcycles were flying in the air, people were falling dead and wounded," he said from his hospital bed.
About 45 minutes later, gunmen riding two motorcycles and in a van fired on another outdoor market in a mainly Shiite neighborhood near Sadr City. Police said at least 11 people were killed.
Of the 142 Iraqis killed or found dead Tuesday, 124 died in Baghdad. Police said they had been unable to complete their tally of dumped corpses in the eastern half of the city because of violence there.

Speaker Pelosi needs to put protecting gay kids first
by deb price
The photograph of new House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was political gold: Surrounded by a sea of lawmakers' shiny-faced girls and boys, a few of them her own grandkids, the first woman to lead "the people's House" waved the gavel, signaling a new era, particularly for America's youngest citizens.
Odds are that at least one of the 19 children will start becoming aware of being gay by age 10.
If Pelosi's picture-perfect snapshot is to mean something beyond being a politically useful prop, she should direct the new Congress to take its first serious look at what it's like to grow up gay in America.
That picture isn't so pretty. And those of us who're gay adults have the psychic scars to prove it.
Painfully aware that much of the world considers them worthless, many gay kids struggle with a cycle of self hatred that they carry into adulthood, if they are lucky enough to survive that long.
Why should Pelosi put "Protect our gay kids" atop the House's to-do list? Heart-breaking research provides plenty of reasons:
That sort of sex ed makes gay kids feel invisible -- or worse. Gay students at such schools reported higher levels of skipping school because they don't feel safe, being bullied and feeling unable to talk with teachers, counselors or other adults paid to help them through rocky growing-up years. And these kids were less likely to know any openly gay school official.
Pelosi ought to use her forceful "mother of five" voice to speak out against these outrages and insist that our nation live up to its obligation to gay kids. Now, that would be a pretty picture.

Giuliani Hires Gay Foe As '08 Campaign Advisor
by The Associated Press
Posted: January 16, 2007 - 1:00 pm ET
(Des Moines, Iowa) Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has hired prominent Iowa Republican Jim Nussle to advise him on his possible presidential run.
Nussle, a former congressman and 2006 candidate for governor, will play "an important leadership on behalf of the exploratory committee both in Iowa and nationally," Giuliani said in a statement.Giuliani said Nussle brings valuable skills and a strong political track record in the state where precinct caucuses traditionally launch the presidential nominating season.
Nussle lost the governor's race by roughly 100,000 votes to Democrat Chet Culver. The eight-term congressman announced last week that he was forming a political consulting business.
There are deep philosophical differences between the two Republicans.
Giuliani supports abortion rights and gay rights. Nussle took a strong anti-abortion stance in his campaign and wants a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.
Nussle said he's focusing on Giuliani's accomplishments and suggested Giuliani's actions after the 2001 terrorist attacks impressed voters who want a strong leader.
Giuliani is among a handful of Republicans who have formed exploratory committees, a move that lets them travel and raise money as they explore seeking the presidential nomination.
Giuliani and Nussle declined to discuss terms of Nussle's employment.

we did compare the divas when the dreamgirl brouhaha was unleashed but now we have a new clash of the titans to embark on....who's the better drunk...danny devito or paula abdul or r.i.p. james brown?
i think they all have their moments...james brown had me cracking up out loud (cuol...my new version of lol ehhe), danny devito killed me with his george bush impersonation and when he sat on rosie's lap and paula just made my ribs split right off the bat with "good morning everybody!!!"..... it's up to you...you vote ehahahah
