dull flame of desire

wow she still releases a ton of singles from each album and i love her for it. here's the video for bjork's fifth single from 'volta' and its a duet with antony from anthony and the johnsons. interestingly, the two singers recorded their performances in from of green screens seperately and then the footage was given to three different directors. they went and did their thing and then the three short films were edited together to form this modern masterpiece! check it out!

letterman stood up by mc cain

i've always loved letterman...now i am in love with him!

NEW YORK (AP) — "Late Show" host David Letterman treated John McCain's decision to cancel an appearance on his talk show more like a stupid human trick than the act of a statesman. The Republican presidential candidate said he was halting his campaign activities Wednesday, citing the need to deal with the nation's financial crisis, and called Letterman to drop out of the show's late-night lineup.
On the air Wednesday night, Letterman assailed McCain's rationale and, with prickly humor, questioned whether the nominee — now trailing in some polls — was in trouble. "This doesn't smell right," Letterman said. "This is not the way a tested hero behaves. Somebody's putting something in his Metamucil." McCain spokeswoman Nicole Wallace said Thursday that the campaign "felt this wasn't a night for comedy." "We deeply regret offending Mr. Letterman, but our candidate's priority at this moment is to focus on this crisis," Wallace said on NBC's "Today" show.
Letterman called McCain "a true American hero" but told his viewers: "This is not the John McCain I know, by God. It makes me believe something is going haywire with the campaign." Instead of suspending a campaign, Letterman said, a presidential candidate should go to Washington to deal with a crisis and let his running mate shoulder the burdens of politicking. "That's what you do. You don't quit. ... Or is that really a good thing to do?" Letterman said, a reference to McCain's running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
"What's the problem? Where is she? Why isn't she doing that?" he asked.
Letterman later asked: "Are we suspending it because there's an economic crisis or because the poll numbers are sliding?"

Making matters worse for McCain, his replacement was MSNBC's "Countdown" host Keith Olbermann, a constant critic of the Arizona senator. McCain told the CBS show that he was immediately flying back to Washington, Letterman told his audience. Then Letterman showed a TV feed of McCain being made-up for an appearance on news anchor Katie Couric's "CBS Evening News."
"Doesn't seem to be racing to the airport, does he?" Letterman said. "This just gets uglier and uglier." As McCain spoke to Couric, Letterman shouted at the feed: "Hey, John, I've got a question. Do you need a ride to the airport?" Letterman later said: "We're told now that the senator has concluded his interview with Katie Couric and he's now on Rachael Ray's show making veal piccata. ... What are you going to do?" CBS is a division of CBS Corp.

i have a huge problem with this...it just sounds crazy...but i guess two men getting married must seem crazy to some people. more of my opinion after the story...

PETA Urges Ben & Jerry's To Use Human Milk

Group Says Move Would Help Humans, Cows

WATERBURY, Vt. -- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, cofounders of Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc., urging them to replace cow's milk they use in their ice cream products with human breast milk, according to a statement recently released by a PETA spokeswoman.

"PETA's request comes in the wake of news reports that a Swiss restaurant owner will begin purchasing breast milk from nursing mothers and substituting breast milk for 75 percent of the cow's milk in the food he serves," the statement says.

PETA Urges Ben & Jerry's To Use Human Milk

PETA officials say a move to human breast milk would lessen the suffering of dairy cows and their babies on factory farms and benefit human health.

"The fact that human adults consume huge quantities of dairy products made from milk that was meant for a baby cow just doesn't make sense," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "Everyone knows that 'the breast is best,' so Ben & Jerry's could do consumers and cows a big favor by making the switch to breast milk."

"We applaud PETA's novel approach to bringing attention to an issue, but we believe a mother's milk is best used for her child," said a spokesperson for Ben and Jerry's.

September 23, 2008

Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, Cofounders

Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc.

Dear Mr. Cohen and Mr. Greenfield,

On behalf of PETA and our more than 2 million members and supporters, I'd like to bring your attention to an innovative new idea from Switzerland that would bring a unique twist to Ben and Jerry's.

Storchen restaurant is set to unveil a menu that includes soups, stews, and sauces made with at least 75 percent breast milk procured from human donors who are paid in exchange for their milk. If Ben and Jerry's replaced the cow's milk in its ice cream with breast milk, your customers-and cows-would reap the benefits.

Using cow's milk for your ice cream is a hazard to your customer's health. Dairy products have been linked to juvenile diabetes, allergies, constipation, obesity, and prostate and ovarian cancer. The late Dr. Benjamin Spock, America's leading authority on child care, spoke out against feeding cow's milk to children, saying it may play a role in anemia, allergies, and juvenile diabetes and in the long term, will set kids up for obesity and heart disease-America's number one cause of death.

Animals will also benefit from the switch to breast milk. Like all mammals, cows only produce milk during and after pregnancy, so to be able to constantly milk them, cows are forcefully impregnated every nine months. After several years of living in filthy conditions and being forced to produce 10 times more milk than they would naturally, their exhausted bodies are turned into hamburgers or ground up for soup.

And of course, the veal industry could not survive without the dairy industry. Because male calves can't produce milk, dairy farmers take them from their mothers immediately after birth and sell them to veal farms, where they endure 14 to17 weeks of torment chained inside a crate so small that they can't even turn around.

The breast is best! Won't you give cows and their babies a break and our health a boost by switching from cow's milk to breast milk in Ben and Jerry's ice cream? Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Tracy Reiman

Executive Vice President

are these what the flavours would be called? haha

well in reality we are the only species that drinks another animal's milk and that's what causes the phlegm. we are somewhat allergic to it. but breast milk isn't homogenized...it comes straight from the nipple.

the amount of ice cream produced supercedes the amount of women who would be willing to sit in factories getting their tits pumped. then again it is a career option for welfare recipients who get pregnant all the time haha (i'm going to hell for that one i'm sure)

would the ice cream be served in a gaultier cone? you could have two different flavours in each bra haha

this is just insane and i hope the man who is doing that at his restaurant puts a disclaimer in his menus because i don't think i would want to eat there honestly. why not switch to soy milk instead?

i'd like to find out if every single staunch peta member is a complete vegan. and why they think it's ok to grow crops just to mow them down and harvest them over and over again. do they kill roaches and mice? do they argue against rodenticide in the subways? do they complain when they spray to get rid of mosquitoes carrying west nile virus?

The differences between Obama and Palin/Mc Cain are remarkable to say the least
(posted on facebook by friend ian jopson)

If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're 'exotic and different.'

If you grew up in Alaska eating moose burgers, you're the quintessential "American story."

If your name is Barack, you're a radical, unpatriotic "Muslim."

If you name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a "maverick."

If you graduate from Harvard law School, you're "unstable."

If you attended five different small colleges before graduating, you're well-grounded.

If you spend three years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend twelve years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend eight years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend four years n the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees----you don't have any "real leadership" experience.

If your total resume is: local weather girl, four years on the city council and six years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, twenty months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive, and have the wherewithal to step in and run the nation.

If you have been married to the same woman for nineteen years while raising two beautiful daughters all within Protestant churches, you're not a "real" Christian.

If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the following month, you're a Christian.

If you teach responsible, age-appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the "fiber" of society.

If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.

If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values "don't represent America's."

If you're husband is nicknamed 'First Dude', with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable (not to mention patriotic!)

Things are much clearer now!

obama talks to philly gay news

DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE SEN. BARACK OBAMA AP Photo: Ed Andrieski

In this election season, we attempted to bring you the views of both the Democratic and Republican candidates for president — just as we attempted to bring you the views of the top two candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination for the spring primary. The format for both candidates was to be the same: the same questions, with no follow-up questions and the same time limit. And since April, we have repeatedly reached out to Republican Sen. John McCain’s press representative, Jill Hazelbaker, by phone and e-mail.

Once it became clear that McCain would not participate, Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign put no conditions on the interview. Obama spoke to PGN by phone Sept. 16; an audio version of the interview will be posted at www.epgn.com. In his first live interview with local gay press during this campaign, here’s what the Democratic nominee had to say.

PGN: You are the most LGBT-friendly candidate running for president in history. Are you concerned that John McCain and the Republicans might use this as a divisive issue as they did in 2004?
BARACK OBAMA: No. I think they can try but I don’t think it will work for a couple of reasons. Number one, I think that the American people’s attitudes with respect to LGBT issues are continuing to evolve. I think people are becoming more and more aware of the need to treat all people equally regardless of sexual orientation. There are some people who disagree with that, but frankly those folks — many of them — probably have already made their minds up about this election earlier.

PGN: You’ve talked about your many gay friends. Would you and Michelle be comfortable attending their commitment ceremony?
BO: We would. But I’ll be honest with you that, these days, I can’t go anywhere.

PGN: The current President Bush has used signing orders to change military rules and regulations. If White House counsel advised you that you could end “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” by attaching a signing order to a military appropriations bill, would you?
BO: I would not do it that way. The reason is because I want to make sure that when we reverse “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” it’s gone through a process and we’ve built a consensus or at least a clarity of that, of what my expectations are, so that it works. My first obligation as the president is to make sure that I keep the American people safe and that our military is functioning effectively. Although I have consistently said I would repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” I believe that the way to do it is make sure that we are working through a process, getting the Joint Chiefs of Staff clear in terms of what our priorities are going to be. That’s how we were able to integrate the armed services to get women more actively involved in the armed services. At some point, you’ve got to make a decision that that’s the right thing to do, but you always want to make sure that you are doing it in a way that maintains our core mission in our military.

PGN: Many lawyers contend that the Defense of Marriage Act passed by Congress is unconstitutional. It takes away over 1,100 rights, including IRS joint filings. If a suit is filed in federal court, would you expect or instruct your attorney general to join in that suit with an amicus brief questioning its legality?
BO: I would want to review carefully any lawsuit that was filed. This is probably my carryover from being a constitutional lawyer. Here’s where I can tell you [what] my principle is: DOMA was an unnecessary encroachment by the federal government in an area traditionally reserved for the state. I think that it was primarily sent as a message to score political points instead of work through these difficult issues. I recognize why it was done. I’m sympathetic to the political pressures involved, but I think that we need to bring it to a close and my preference would be to work through a legislative solution. I would also point out that if it’s going before this court, I’m not sure what chances it would have to be overturned. I think we’re going to have to take a different approach, but I am absolutely committed to the concept it is not necessary.

PGN: In last year’s [Gay] History Project, Elaine Noble, who was one of the first elected [gay] officials in the country, referring to her discussions with Harvey Milk, said, “I think we both knew that one of us was going to die.” Milk, of course, was killed. As the first African-American president, have you and Michelle discussed this?
BO: We don’t spend time worrying about security issues. We have Secret Service protection, which is the best in the world. Obviously we take precautions and listen to them, but what I spend the day thinking about is how do I get my message out that we need to change this country to make it more just and more fair, to make sure the economy is growing on behalf of middle-class Americans, make sure kids can go to college and bringing this war in Iraq to an end. That’s what I spend my time thinking about.

PGN: In the wake of the torture murder of Matthew Shepard [in 1998], Sen. McCain voted against adding sexual orientation to the definition of hate crimes and says he’ll vote against it again. Isn’t this inconsistent for a man who knows torture?
BO: You’ll have to ask Sen. McCain that. Here’s what I can say. There is no doubt that hate crimes based on sexual orientation are all too prevalent. It is something that we have to hit back hard against and identify these vicious crimes for what they are: hate crimes. This is something that I believe in and will continue to believe in when I am president.

PGN: President Reagan, President Bush and President Clinton, when meeting world leaders, have raised human-rights questions. Amnesty International has documented countries that imprison, torture and kill gay men, some of which are very close U.S. allies. Would you be willing to raise that question when meeting with those leaders?
BO: I think that the treatment of gays, lesbians and transgender persons is part of this broader human-rights discussion. I think it is not acceptable that we would in any way carve out exceptions for our broader human-rights advocacy to exclude violations of human rights based on sexual orientation. I think that has to be part and parcel of any conversations we have about human rights.

Sandra B disses Sarah P

this is some juicy shit!   she also said something along the lines of (and i paraphrase) "sarah palin better stay out of new york city because she's going to get some of her strong, black brothers to gang rape her" recently....and i'm not really sure what she meant by that or whether it really made any sense.  i doubt you'd find sandra walking the streets of manhattan with a gaggle of mandingos in tow but i still love her nonetheless.  here's a little clip from her show in d.c.   i wonder if she's coming to nyc...would love to see her live!

marriage...the final frontier

it's stories like this that make me get all squishy inside...

'Star Trek' icon George Takei marries longtime partner Brad Altman

By SANDY COHEN, AP Entertainment Writer
Mon Sep 15, 11:50 PM ET

LOS ANGELES - George Takei and his longtime partner, Brad Altman, have agreed to live long and prosper together.

Takei, 71, and Altman, 54, were married Sunday in a multicultural ceremony at the Japanese American National Museum that featured a Buddhist priest, Native American wedding bands, a Japanese Koto harp and a bagpipe procession.

The couple, both clad in white dinner jackets with black pants, made a grand entrance to the tune of "One Singular Sensation" from the Broadway musical "A Chorus Line." They stepped into a circle of yellow roses and lilies, where they shared a traditional Japanese tea ceremony and were wed by a Buddhist priest.

The couple, who have been together for 21 years, wrote their own vows.

Altman said that he had called Takei many things during their two decades together — "life partner, significant other" — but that their marriage represented "a dream come true for me."

"I can add 'my husband' to the list of things I call you," he said.

Takei called his longtime partner an "organized, detail-obsessed, punctuality-driven control freak."

"I'm easygoing with details, so we're a good fit," he said in the trademark baritone recognizable to all "Star Trek" and Howard Stern fans.

"I vow to care for you as you've cared for me ... and to love you as my husband and the only man in my life," Takei said as he held Altman's hands.

The priest then pronounced them "spouses for life." A bagpiper played as the newlyweds walked out, followed by friends, family and a few members of the press.

Takei said he and Altman chose to make their wedding public — and have been outspoken gay-rights advocates for years — for the sake of democracy.

"We have a relationship that's been stronger and longer-lived than some of our straight friends, and yet we were not equal," Takei told The Associated Press before the ceremony. "What this does is give us that dignity; (it's) being part of the American system and being whole. We're making the American system whole as well, as America is becoming more equal."

Such activism is nothing new for Takei. He participated in the civil rights movement, served as a Democratic delegate in 1972 and fought for redress for those — like his own family — who were forced into internment camps after World War II.

"I grew up determined not to be marginalized," he said. "That served as an incentive for me to be proactive."

He and Altman were among the first couples to receive a marriage license in West Hollywood when the state began granting licenses to gay couples on June 17.

"A quarter century ago, when I first met Brad, (marriage) was the farthest thing from our imagination," Takei said. "But what seemed impossible at one time becomes, over the passage of time, more and more 'what if' and 'why not.' We have to participate in moving society along to be a better democracy."

Wedding guests included "Star Trek" stars Walter Koenig and Nichelle Nichols, who served as best man and best lady, Hollywood executives, local and national government officials and the couple's relatives from around the world.

Keeping with the multicultural theme, guests dined on Asian/Baja Californian fusion cuisine and took home Japanese tea-ceremony treats in boxes printed with the phrase: "May sweet equality live long and prosper."

The "Star Trek" star and his manager plan to honeymoon in Argentina and Peru.

my horoscope

wow...i haven't really read my horoscope in a while but this one suits me so perfectly right now at this point in my life....freaky!

September 14, 2008

  1. AriesAries (3/21-4/19)

When someone asks you what you want today, you may surprise yourself when you can't come up with an answer. It's not that you have everything you need, it's that you really haven't given enough thought to what you want -- and that is a real problem. It's not selfish to put energy toward achieving your own desires instead of the desires of other people. In fact, it's necessary sometimes. So put your own needs on the front burner, today. Figure out your priorities so you'll be ready next time.

radiohole!

going to see 'radiohole' at the kitchen tonight...it looks really, really crazy and exciting!

explores the contradictory puritanical and hedonistic underpinnings of the American psyche by colliding the psychedelic aesthetic of occult filmmaker Kenneth Anger with the histrionic escapades of the self-proclaimed "America's Loving Home Defender," Carrie A. Nation -- a remarkable 19th century, hatchet-wielding temperance crusader. Using miniature floating video monitors, post-it notes, licorice, and a healthy dose of fairy dust, Radiohole conjures a "pleasuredome" populated by an unpredictable mélange of questionable characters ranging from random Roman centurions to male cherubs that force Carrie A. Nation to wield her hatchet against sin and degradation -- only to then find herself in the grips of a voluptuous spiritual transformation of her own.

Co-commissioned by the Kitchen, the donaufestival, and the Noorderzon Festival, ANGER/NATION is created by Radiohole and performed in the tradional style by company members Eric Dyer, Scott Halvorsen Gillette, and Maggie Hoffman with special guest star Iver Findlay. Video design by Iver Findlay, So Yong Kim and Radiohole.

All-Male 'Romeo and Juliet' Bows in DC

Kenneth Jones Playbill On-Line
Tue Sep 9, 5:27 PM ET

STC associate artistic director David Muse stages the production. The all-male casting reflects the convention of Shakespeare's time. Opening is Sept. 15.

The cast includes Finn Wittrock as Romeo and James Davis as Juliet, with Aubrey Deeker, Drew Eshelman, Ted van Griethuysen, Dan Kremer, Lawrence Redmond and Craig Wallace.

"Staged in the thrust configuration, the production features period costumes and music influenced by the Renaissance to explore theatre traditions prevalent in Shakespeare's day," according to STC.

According to STC notes, "The world's greatest and most enduring love story, Romeo and Juliet follows its star-crossed lovers as they hurtle from their first shy glances to their last heartrending kiss. Caught between their feuding families, Romeo and Juliet desperately struggle to build a world insulated from the violence, but their love races toward a final confrontation with fate."

"Shakespeare was a writer of gorgeous poetry, but I believe that the love poetry in Romeo and Juliet is especially glorious in part because Shakespeare knew that two young men would be performing it," stated director David Muse. "Shakespeare knew that he couldn't count on two actors gazing at each other to portray being in love in a way that audiences were going to believe. And so the actors need to jump into the language and make its power convince us of the power of this love. Working with an all-male cast unlocks a world of imaginative collaboration between the audience and the actors, and I hope that people will walk away with an image of this play in their heads that is different from the romanticized, stereotypical Romeo and Juliet that's lodged in our consciousness. I hope it's a play that feels fresh and dangerous and transgressive, which is a way that we don't usually think of this play."

The creative team includes set designer Scott Bradley, costume designer Jennifer Moeller, music sound design and musical direction by The Broken Chord Collective, lighting designer Lap Chi Chu, fight director Robin McFarquhar, choreographer Daniel Pelzig and text coach Ellen O'Brien.

italian comedian faces prison for joke about the pope and gays

(Rome) Italian stand-up comic Sabina Guzzanti is under investigation for “vilification” of the Pope for telling an audience that Benedict XVI would “go to hell and be pursued by two big, gay and very active devils.”

Pope Benedict is known for his vocal opposition to LGBT rights and same-sex marriage.

Guzzanti was appearing at an anti-politics rally organized by satirist Beppy Grillo in Rome last July. If convicted, Guzzanti could be imprisoned for up to five years.

The Rome city prosecutor, Giovanni Ferrara, has asked the federal justice minister for permission to start criminal proceedings against Guzzanti. It is a criminal offense in Italy to “offend the honor” of the Pope or the Italian president.

Ferrara said that Guzzanti’s comments went beyond satire.

The Union of Christian Democrats, part of the ruling conservative coalition government in Italy said it would support the charges.

“These gratuitous insults must be punished,” said Luca Volonte, a spokesperson for the party.

Guzzanti is no stranger to controversy. She recently caused a firestorm by suggesting that Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s equal opportunities minister Mara Carfagna - who had previously worked as a topless model - got her job in exchange for performing oral sex on the Italian Premier.

BY EVE ENSLER (below).
THE AUTHOR OF THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES RECOGNIZES A TRUE C#NT WHEN SHE SEES ONE: SARAH PALIN!

Eve Ensler, the American playwright, performer, feminist and activist best known for "The Vagina Monologues", wrote the following about Sarah Palin.
*Drill, Drill, Drill*
I am having Sarah Palin nightmares.

I dreamt last night that she was a member of a club where they rode snowmobiles and wore the claws of drowned and starved polar bears around their necks. I have a particular thing for Polar Bears.
Maybe it's their snowy whiteness or their bigness or the fact that they live in the Arctic or that I have never seen one in person or touched one.
Maybe it is the fact that they live so comfortably on ice.
Whatever it is, I need the polar bears.
I don't like raging at women.
I am a Feminist and have spent my life trying to build community, help empower women and stop violence against them.

It is hard to write about Sarah Palin.
This is why the Sarah Palin choice was all the more insidious and cynical.
The people who made this choice count on the goodness and solidarity of Feminists.
But everything Sarah Palin believes in and practices is antithetical to Feminism which for me is part of one story -- connected to saving the earth, ending racism, empowering women, giving young girls options, opening our minds, deepening tolerance, and ending violence and war.

I believe that the McCain/Palin ticket is one of the most dangerous choices of my lifetime, and should this country chose those candidates the fall-out may be so great, the destruction so vast in so many areas that America may never
recover.
But what is equally disturbing is the impact that duo would have on the rest of the world.

Unfortunately, this is not a joke.

In my lifetime I have seen the clownish, the inept, the bizarre be elected to the
presidency with regularity.
Sarah Palin does not believe in evolution.
I take this as a metaphor.
In her world and the world of Fundamentalists nothing changes or gets better or evolves.
She does not believe in global warming.
The melting of the arctic, the storms that are destroying our cities, the pollution and rise of cancers, are all part of God's plan.
She is fighting to take the polar bears off the endangered species list.
The earth, in Palin's view, is here to be taken and plundered.
The wolves and the bears are here to be shot and plundered. The oil is here to be taken and plundered.

Iraq is here to be taken and plundered.
As she said herself of the Iraqi war, "It was a task from God."
Sarah Palin does not believe in abortion.
She does not believe women who are raped and incested and ripped open
against their will should have a right to determine whether they have their rapist's baby or not.
She obviously does not believe in sex education or birth control.
I imagine her daughter was practicing abstinence and we know how many babies that makes.
Sarah Palin does not much believe in thinking.
From what I gather she has tried to ban books from the library, has a
tendency to dispense with people who think independently.
She cannot tolerate an environment of ambiguity and difference.
This is a woman who could and might very well be the next president of the United States.
She would govern one of the most diverse populations on the earth.
Sarah believes in guns.
She has her own custom Austrian hunting rifle.
She has been known to kill 40 caribou at a clip. She has shot hundreds of wolves from the air.
Sarah believes in God.
That is of course her right, her private right.
But when God and Guns come together in the public sector, when war is declared in God's name, when the rights of women are denied in hisname, that is the end of separation of church and state and the undoing of everything America has ever tried to be.
I write to my sisters.
I write because I believe we hold this election in our hands.
This vote is a vote that will determine the future not just of the U.S., but of the
planet.
It will determine whether we create policies to save the earth or make it forever uninhabitable for humans.
It will determine whether we move towards dialogue and diplomacy in the world or whether we escalate violence through invasion, undermining and attack.
It will determine whether we go for oil, strip mining, coal burning or invest
our money in alternatives that will free us from dependency and destruction.
It will determine if money gets spent on education and healthcare or whether we build more and more methods of killing.
It will determine whether America is a free open tolerant society or a closed place of fear, fundamentalism and aggression.
If the Polar Bears don't move you to go and do everything in your power to get Obama elected then consider the chant that filled the hall after Palin spoke at the RNC, "Drill Drill Drill." I think of teeth when I think of drills.

I think of rape. I think of destruction. I think of domination.

I think of military exercises that force mindless repetition, emptying the brain of analysis, doubt, ambiguity or dissent.
I think of pain.

Do we want a future of drilling? More holes in the ozone, in the floor of the sea, more holes in our thinking, in the trust between nations and peoples, more holes in the fabric of this precious thing we call life?

Sarah Palin Naked

She said "nucular." Twice.

I realized three things tonight. For one, if you are a McCain/Palin/Bush voter, you and I do not have a difference of opinion. We have a difference in brain power. Two, she really is as ignorant as I feared. And, three, she really is kinda hot. Basically, I want to have sex with her on my Barack Obama sheets while my wife reads aloud from the Constitution. (My wife is cool with this if I promise to "first wipe off Palin's tranny makeup." I married well.)

Now, I want to be clear and speak directly to those of you who LOVED that Palin interview. You're an idiot. I mean that. This is not one of those cases where we're going to agree to disagree. This isn't one of those situations where we debate it passionately and then walk away thinking that the other guy is wrong but argued well. I'm not going to think of you as a thoughtful but misguided person with different ideas who still really cares about the country and the world. No, sorry, not this time. This time, if you watched those interview excerpts and weren't scared out of your freakin' mind, then you're mentally ill, mentally disabled, or mentally disturbed. What you are NOT is responsible, informed, curious, thoughtful, mature, educated, empathetic, or remotely serious. I mean it.

But I like to think that anyone can change.

Stop voting for people you want to have a beer with. Stop voting for folksy. Stop voting for people who remind you of your neighbor. Stop voting for the ideologically intransigent, the staggeringly ignorant, and the blazingly incompetent.

Vote for someone smarter than you. Vote for someone who inspires you. Vote for someone who has not only traveled the world but who has also shown a deep understanding and compassion for it. The stakes are real and they're terrifyingly high. This election matters. It matters. It really matters. Let me say that one more time. This. Really. Matters.

a moment of virtual silence

i wanted to take a moment to reflect on this the seventh anniversary of the day the world changed forever...september 11th, 2001 and send positive beams out there to help combat the negative insanity that has ensued in its aftermath. our history can certainly be divided into two parts for sure...before and after 9/11
