i'm holding out for a hero

was supposed to go to see the bravery in concert tonight but i'm feeling a little sick and was definitely swayed when i found out that the sci-fi channel is having a "heroes" marathon tonight! the first six episodes will be shown back to back and that's reason enough for me to stay home in my bed...my first night off in over a month uggh!

i think the show is absolutely brilliant and original. all the characters are erected from such impressively complex backgrounds and their powers are very new and refreshing and although the cause is genetic evolution, each of their powers reflects who they are as people. if you haven't caught it yet...tonight is the night...not that anyone really reads this blog or anything ehehehhe

calling all angels toy drive and fundraiser

Greetings,
The holidays are here and I Unity Fund (a grassroots charity fundraising
group I am a member of) is producing it's fourth annual fundraiser and toy drive "Calling All Angels". This year we have chosen The Jacobi Medical Center Pediatric AIDS Ward in the Bronx as the recipient of our efforts. It will be held at the Skyline Hotel Penthouse Ballroom on Sunday, December 10th from 6-10pm. Enclosed in a room with windows on three sides, the Ballroom offers a gorgeous view of the Manhattan skyline with the Empire State Building to the left. Hosted by the fabulous Edie, performers are being added to the roster every day. Come and join us the night of the event and help make a difference in a child's life or remember to drop off a toy at a location near you. Below is a gist of the event and toy drive drop off locations around Manhattan. For large donations or more information about the event or how you can help (i.e. volunteering or knowing a perfect place to house one of our toy drive boxes) go to www.iunityfund.org or call 646-429-9333

Thanks a lot...

meant to be

was blogjogging (did i just make up a new internet term? prolly not) and stumbled upon this great entry at rosie o'donnell's blog...it was titled "beshert" which is hebrew for "meant to be" (thank you ari gold). it is just so romantic and from such an interesting source...

i told Kelli
that i found The Rosie O’Donnell Show mouse pad
in Bo’s desk, the one with you floating in a hot air balloon
with sparkles.what i didn’t know is that Bo taped a quote to the back of it.
i noticed it yesterday–

“Someday, after we have mastered the winds, the waves,
the tides and gravity–we shall harness the energies of love.
Then for the second time in the history of the world, man
will have discovered fire.”
– Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

i didn’t know much about this man but google says he was a
French Jesuit priest and paleontologist who was always on
digs in China and Egypt and kicked out of the church because
he believed in science and evolution as well as in God.
He is buried in Poughkeepsie , NY .

one for our team!

i never really got the chance to comment on our victorious election two tuesdays ago....getting control of the senate and the house really left everyone in the scene in such a buoyant mood that i certainly recognized in retrospect. everyone that came to urge the week and weekend after definitely had a glow on their face or evidence of an inner smile escaping them. it was exciting to me how many people were avidly discussing it and people in the gay community's involvement and interest in our current political situation is inspiring. but here's more gay world good news coming from none other than south africa.....let the snowball effect continue!

South Africa to legalize gay marriage

Lawmakers approve bill for president's signature

CAPE TOWN, South Africa - The South African parliament Tuesday overwhelmingly approved legislation recognizing gay marriages — a first for a continent where homosexuality is largely taboo.

By a vote of 230-41 with three abstentions, the National Assembly passed the Civil Union Bill, a compromise that resulted from months of heated public discussion. Both traditionalists and gay activists have criticized the measure, and there have been warnings that it might be unconstitutional.

African National Congress veterans heralded the bill for extending basic freedoms to everyone and equated it with liberation from the shackles of apartheid.

“When we attained our democracy, we sought to distinguish ourselves from an unjust painful past, by declaring that never again shall it be that any South African will be discriminated against on the basis of color, creed culture and sex,” Home Affairs Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula told the National Assembly.

But a Christian lawmaker, Kenneth Meshoe, said it was the “saddest day in our 12 years of democracy” and warned that South Africa “was provoking God’s anger.”

One church leader in Nigeria denounced the move as “satanic,” reflecting the views on a deeply conservative continent where some countries are debating constitutional amendments to ban same sex marriages.

But gay rights groups in Europe hailed South Africa as a shining example of progressiveness.

President to sign
The vote in the National Assembly followed months of heated public debate, and its outcome was expected, given the ANC’s huge majority. It now has to go to the National Council of Provinces, which is expected to be a formality, before being signed into law by President Thabo Mbeki.

The bill provides for the “voluntary union of two persons, which is solemnized and registered by either a marriage or civil union.” It does not specify whether they are heterosexual or homosexual partnerships.

But it also says marriage officers need not perform a ceremony between same-sex couples if doing so would conflict with his or her “conscience, religion and belief.”

South Africa recognized the rights of gay people in the constitution adopted after apartheid ended in 1994 — the first in the world to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

The bill was drawn up in order to comply with a Constitutional Court ruling in December 2005 that said existing marriage legislation was unconstitutional for discriminating against same-sex couples.

The court gave the government a Dec. 1 deadline to change the laws, saying that otherwise, same-sex marriages would be legalized by default.

“In order to give effect to the Constitutional Court ruling, same sex couples have to be allowed to marry so that they can enjoy the status, obligations and entitlements enjoyed at the moment by opposite sex couples,” Mapisa-Nqakula said.

The Roman Catholic Church and many traditional leaders objected to the use of “marriage” saying this denigrated the sanctity of traditional marriages.

'Opt-out' clause for ministers
To try to ease some of these concerns, the drafters of the bill allowed both religious and civil officers to refuse to marry same sex couples.

Gay rights groups criticized this “opt-out” clause, saying they should be treated the same as heterosexual couples.

But in general, they hailed the new measure as a “rejection of previous attempts to render lesbian and gay people as second-class citizens.”

“It demonstrates powerfully the commitment of our lawmakers to ensuring that all human beings are treated with dignity,” said Fikile Vilakazi of the Joint Working Group, a national network of 17 gay and lesbian organizations.

Homosexuality is still largely taboo in Africa. It is illegal in Zimbabwe, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Tanzania, Ghana and most other sub-Saharan countries. Even in South Africa, gays and lesbians are often attacked because of their sexual orientation.

Denmark in 1989 became the first country to legislate for same-sex partnerships and several other European Union members have followed suit. In the United States, only the state of Massachusetts allows gay marriage. Vermont and Connecticut permit civil unions, and more than a dozen states grant lesser legal rights to gay couples.

here are all the photos featured in w magazine of madonna and her horses...definitely inferior in my opinion to the first steven klein collaboration x-static process back in 2004 but brilliant nonetheless. whenever i see any of these pics memories of her opening number for the confessions tour flood back to me...especially the galloping sounds reverberating through your body...

upcoming dimitri show!

my singer/songwriter friend dimitri that i discussed before has a new show at The Duplex in the west village with special guest La Bruja and Michael Chapman. it will be his first show there and i strongly recommend checking it out if it's not sold out already

go here to make reservations....

success!

so last night was my debut at the gay mecca known as "splash" (or sbny sarcastically) and honestly i don't know exactly how i feel about it. the system was unique to say the least...no monitor for me and the equipment set up for a gnome (i did some serious squats the entire night...my thighs are sore) and the idea of djing in a place that i don't usually go to anymore was interesting. i did well after some adjustment time...subjecting the chelsea crowd to my style of electro, house and other dirty beats that i'm sure they don't get to hear very often. i was downstairs while dj superdave was playing (no offense) the gay cliche anthem house upstairs. the booth downstairs is planted right near the bathrooms so i basically got to see every single person in the club at one point or another and i must say the eye candy made me diabetic. there were some hot hot men there last night....a definite bonus to ease my nervousness. recieved a lot of compliments about what i was playing from staff and patrons...and made lots of eye contact throughout the night. the verdict is i have a new monthly residence down there as aaron tanner added me to his roster of rotating djs...i'm definitely pleased and take it as a success but i'm anxious to see where this will take me careerwise...only time will tell...
A big thank you to all who attended and supported me in such a foreign environment!

it's that time of year again

the holidays are approaching us once again...despite the less than holiday weather we've been experiencing...just wanted to share a song that might help get into the jolly mood. from her new christmas album titled "wintersong", here's sarah mclachlan's clever cover of joni mitchel's "river"

chauncey trick and treat

had a really interesting halloween this year...was kinda bummed out because i couldn't think of a costume to save my life...usually i am so gung ho about one of my favourite holidays but this year i was lame and uninspired. it was only after i got to Urge to dj and loaded in "House of A 1000 corpses" by Rob Zombie when i realized i should have been Captain Spaulding! i already had the facial hair...all i needed was the makeup. so upset about that especially after making the mistake of taking a taxi from my friend Max's house in Chelsea to work. it took me literally 45 minutes and cost me $18 because the idiot cabdriver drove down 7th avenue after the parade and we got caught in horrifying traffic and stuck within police barricades that stretched all the way down to soho.
but on a lighter note...i fucking rocked the house at Urge last night. i was so on the ball djing and my mixing was seamless! a lot of customers raved about me to management and tons of my friends were there to cheer me on. i may not have the best nights at Urge but i have the best and most interesting sounds and beats. i also relocated one of my favourite tracks of all time...it's 11:32 of pure electro bliss...enjoy!
lindstrom - i feel space (freeform five mix)
